Sourdough Pizza Dough Recipe No Yeast

This sourdough pizza dough recipe no yeast is super easy to make and tastes delicious! This recipe takes a little forethought and a little time, like all true sourdough recipes but isn’t too much work to get a delicious dough.

I started making homemade pizza really young and we made it every Friday night growing up. It was the first recipe I could make on my own without a recipe and pizza making was taken pretty seriously by my family. I had 8 brothers and sisters so we made a lot of pizza!

Sourdough magic.

The sourdough works it’s magic with it’s delicious flavor and leavening powers in this sourdough pizza recipe. I mix it up a night or two before I plan on making it. I mix the dough well and then place in a container in the refrigerator until the next morning or when I want to use it.

Then I roll the dough out as thin as I can get it and place it on a greased pizza sheet and cover it loosely with a greased piece of plastic wrap. If you plan to use a pizza spatula or shovel for making a pizza in a pizza oven or grill or on a pizza stone, then place it on a piece of parchment paper that has been lightly dusted with cornmeal or semolina flour or that is lightly greased. Cover the dough with greased plastic wrap.

Let the dough rise for 2-4 hours before docking the dough (creating little holes with a tool or fork to prevent huge bubbles when baking). Add sauce and toppings of choice.

Preheat oven to 500 or desired baking temperature for your cooking method. If you are grilling then the temperature may be lower or if you are using a pizza oven then it might be hotter.

If you are baking the pizza in a pizza oven or on a pizza stone or in a grill, I leave the parchment paper under the pizza and it helps get the pizza from the pizza spatula or shovel to the oven without the pizza getting deformed. The parchment paper may brown or burn to be aware that might happen.

To prevent this, you can leave the pizza on the parchment for a few minutes in the oven and then use the shovel to slide it off once the dough has had some time to cook and firm up a little. You can also let the pizza bake completely on the parchment paper and it will be just fine as well, even if the parchment paper burns a little.

Instructions

  1. Mix the water, sourdough starter, salt and flour together in a bowl and mix until a dough forms. Lightly knead dough then place the dough in a container that has room for some rising and place in refrigerator overnight or for a day or two, until you are ready to use it.
  2. When you are ready to make the pizza, Roll out dough thinly and place on a greased or light dusted (with cornmeal or semolina flour) pizza pan or if you are making this in a pizza oven, on a grill or on a pizza stone then place on a greased or dusted (with cornmeal or semolina flour) piece of parchment paper.
  3. Cover dough with a greased piece of plastic wrap and let it rise on the counter for 2-4 hours before topping and baking.
  4. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 500 F. or your desired temperature for baking pizza, Some pizza ovens heat up really hot and you may bake at a higher temperature.
  5. Dock your dough by pierce little holes with a tool or fork to prevent bubbles from forming in the dough.
  6. Add sauce and toppings of choice.
  7. Bake for approximately 10 minutes, depending on the temperature and cooking method for your pizza.
  8. If baking on parchment paper then use that to slide the pizza into the pizza spatula or shovel and then into the oven with the parchment still under it. Be aware that it might brown or burn if temperatures are hot and that is ok, however, if you don’t want that to happen then remove the paper after the pizza has had a few minutes to bake and crust firms up a little.
  9. Remove from oven after desired baking time, slice and enjoy.
