These sesame garlic beef skewers are a family favorite. They are super simple to make and always taste delicious.
Serve them on their own in little steak bites along side some grilled pineapple, serve then over rice or even chopped in a sandwich. They are great anyway you want to enjoy them.
This recipe calls for a London broil cut of meat, which is known for being a tough cut of meat. It’s also super lean, which makes this meat ideal for marinating to tenderize.
I remember my dad buying London broil when I was a child and teaching us that any cut of meat could be tender if it was tenderized correctly.
He would pound and pierce the meat with forks and then seasoning with meat tenderizing seasonings. I can tell you this much; I never had a tough piece of steak growing up even though it was often the toughest cut of meat.
With this recipe, we leave most of the work of tenderizing to the marinade, which consists of soy sauce, sugar, salt and seasonings.
What you need to make sesame garlic beef skewers:
6 people
- ~2 pounds London broil beef – cut into chunks
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon sriracha – optional
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Instructions
- Pound out London broil with a meat mallet briefly to slightly tenderize the meat, however, don’t destroy the integrity of the meat.
- Cut meat into chunks then place into a zip-lock bag or bowl and add the soy sauce, sugar, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, sriracha (optional), ground ginger and sesame oil to meat and mix well.
- Place into a refrigerator for 2-8 hours to marinate.
- Preheat grill or smoker to 450 F. or if using an oven turn to broil.
- Place meat on a skewer and cook for ~10-15 minutes total. Turn the meat skewer during that time; so each side gets evenly cooked to desired doneness.
