This orange infused hot honey is super versatile and delicious! I love it drizzled over fried or grilled chicken or on a charcuterie board with some cheese and crackers. It would also taste great on any barbequed meats, sandwiches, noodle dishes or any food that you want a sweet and spicy flavor profile for.
In this orange infused hot honey, the orange flavors are defined, the jalapeno or chili pepper’s heat and flavor give this hot honey it’s signature spice and the honey rounds and brings all the flavors together in a thick and luscious blend.
This would be a perfect condiment for the sweet and spicy lovers on Thanksgiving or any holiday. Imagine this drizzled over some roasted or smoke turkey or ham, yum! It would be equally as tasty on some corn bread or rolls.
This recipe can be kept smooth like I have it shown or you can keep the chunks of pepper and orange rind in the honey mixture, instructions on how to do both are below.
What you need to make orange infused hot honey:
Makes ~1/3 cup
- 1 orange – zested and juiced
- 1 jalapeno or chili pepper of choice – seeds removed for mild, seeds left in for hot
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a sauce pot, add orange zest, orange juice, jalapeno or chili pepper, white vinegar, sugar, honey and salt and bring mixture to a boil.
- Simmer for roughly 5 minutes or until the peppers and orange zest have a chance to release their oils, you will smell it, the vinegar will also evaporate.
- Remove pot from heat and for smooth honey, pour mixture through a fine mesh strainer while hot to remove the zest and peppers. If you want the honey to have peppers and zest in it then you don’t need to strain it and it will make approximately 1/2 a cup instead of 1/3 cup.
- Use immediately or store for future use.
