Raspberry Probiotic Protein Shake

I love this raspberry probiotic protein shake because it’s all natural, full of probiotics, lower carb, easy to make and it has NO protein powder in it. Even without protein powder it still has about 17-22 grams of protein, depending on product brands used, for a 28 ounce serving!

Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind some forms of protein powder but I really do love a natural protein shake without the powder too. I also know people who can’t handle the taste or texture of protein powder and this shake it great for that.

The main source of probiotics in this shake come from the kefir. Kefir is the condensed, liquid and easy to consume probiotic base of yogurt. It’s easy to find in the store and great for smoothies. I buy the no sugar added to keep it low in carbohydrates. This recipe uses 1/2 a cup so we are getting about 6 carbs from kefir as well as 5.5 grams of protein.

The majority of the protein in this shake comes from the hemp seeds. They pack a whopping 10 grams of protein into 3 tablespoons of seeds. They blend in well and give a subtle nutty flavor to the shake.

I use sugar free raspberry syrup for this shake but you can also use raspberry jam or whatever flavored sweetener you may have. It intensifies the flavor and adds some sweetness, however, you don’t have to add it to this smoothie but it will be a little tart.

I ran this recipe into a nutrition calculator and using ingredients listed on there it said it was around 22 grams protein and 9.5 net carbs. When I added up the nutrition using the brands of products I personally used it added up to 17 grams protein and around 10 grams net carbohydrates. So be aware that the nutritional facts will change slightly based on the brand of ingredients you are using.
