Air Fried Healthy Bloomin’ Onion

This air fried healthy bloomin’ onion tastes delicious and it’s miles healthier than it’s deep fried relative. This recipe uses almond flour so it’s fairly low carb too and the nuttiness compliments the onion and spices in the recipe. The air fryer helps give this a nice “fried” texture without all of the oil.

I love to dip these in a barbecue and mayonnaise based sauce. 2 parts mayo to 1 part your favorite barbecue sauce. It would also be delicious in ranch dip, use Greek yogurt to keep things healthy.

What you need to make this air fried healthy bloomin’ onion:

  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoons milk
  • 2-3 dashes hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoon flour or gluten free baking mix

Instructions

  1. Slice onion across the top and peel it, keeping the bottom attached.
  2. Cut the onion into wedges but don’t cut all of the way through to the bottom, leave it attached so it looks like a blossom.
  3. loosed each wedge so it looks like petals and each part of the onion will be able to get flour on it.
  4. In a bowl, add egg, milk and hot sauce.
  5. In another bowl, add almond flour, salt, paprika, and flour and mix.
  6. Dip the onion into the egg mixture, spooning the mixture into the onion if you need to.
  7. Dip the onion in the flour mixture, spooning the mixture between each petal so all of the onion is coated.
  8. Place in air fryer and spray with some olive oil.
  9. Bake on 300 F. for 20 minutes then turn heat up to 400 for 10 minutes.
