Black Cherry and Molasses BBQ Sauce

This black cherry and molasses BBQ sauce is super easy to make and tastes great on any meat! The cherry juice blends beautifully with the molasses to create a sweet and savory BBQ sauce that is nontraditional but may become a new family favorite!

Every year in the late spring we find a cherry orchard and pick cherries. It’s been a favorite thing to do for years, I have even gone cherry picking when I was about to deliver a baby. We always eat way too many cherries while picking and come home with lots of extras. We make pies, tarts, juice them and eat them whole. This year I will be using the juice for this barbecue sauce and I am super excited about it!

I use this sauce on my Black Cherry and Molasses BBQ Pork Ribs – that RECIPE HERE.

For the black cherry and molasses BBQ sauce:

  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2/3 cup black cherry juice – I like the straight juice, no sugar added
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon spicy Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • dash cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar

Instructions

Add all of the ingredients into a sauce pan and bring sauce to a boil.
Reduce heat to a simmer while stirring for 5 minutes.
Use immediately or store in a jar for future use.

I have never frozen or canned this sauce but I imagine you could do that and it would work just fine.
