I love these cheddar biscuits! They are soft yet biscuit-y (I know that isn’t a word) and they melt in your mouth. They are also no fuss and easy to put together! They work great in biscuits and gravy with some sausage and or country gravy poured over the top! I am a sucker for a good biscuits and gravy! They are also delicious on their own or any other way you want to eat them!
What you need to make cheddar biscuits:
Makes ~12 large biscuits
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 tablespoons butter, cold and cut into chunks
- 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 400 F.
- In a large mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt.
- Stir together.
- Add cold chunks of butter and work into the flour with fingers or pastry cutter until butter is in pea sized chunks.
- Add cheddar cheese and toss in the flour with your hands or a spoon.
- Add milk and stir together until a dough forms.
- If you need slightly more flour for the dough to pull together and form a dough ball add a little at a time until dough can be worked with you hands and isn’t too sticky.
- Lay dough onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and roughly (it doesn’t have to be pretty) press into a rectangle where the thickness of the dough is about 2 inches thick.
- Slice into square pieces and spread them out on the cookie sheet, leaving enough room for the biscuits to rise.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until the tops are slightly golden and the biscuits seem cooked through. You can stick a tooth pick into the center of the biscuit and if it comes out clean they are done.
- Enjoy!
